How to: Fit your blind

Blinds are actually incredibly easy to fit!

Fitting Made to Measure Roller Blinds

The thought of fitting your own blinds may be daunting but follow our simple step by step guide and you will find it an easy job!

Things You Will Need:

Before you start, you will need the brackets, screws and possibly wall plugs. A pair of scissors, a pencil and a tape measure.

If you are fitting into wood or UPVC, apart from the brackets and screws, you should only need a bradawl and a screw driver. If you plan on going into masonry you will need to fit wall plugs. For this job you will also need a drill with a masonry drill bit.

You can use the following instructions to fit a spring loaded blind as well as a side control blind but for a spring loaded blind, you will need to fit the right hand end of your blind into the bracket first when hanging the blind.

For our Roller-Matic Brackets (see pic) used for larger blinds, you will need to place the opposite side to the chain into the lowest hole of the bracket first.

Firstly, wash your hands! You don't want to ruin the blind with fingerprints before you hang it!

Lay your blind flat on to a firm work top / table with plenty of room.

With scissors, carefully cut the ends off of the plastic bag (about 5" off both sides) this way you can handle the blind throughout the fitting process without the risk of marking it.

Your brackets can be either be face fixed, top fixed or side fixed if you chose this option when ordering.

If you are face fixing or top fixing your blind, carefully hold it up to your window and centralise it.

If your roller blind has a scalloped finish, you may want to use your tape measure to double check the centre of the scallop is in line with the centre of the window.

If you are side fixing your brackets, offer the chain end bracket into the recess side wall. If you are going to face fix onto the window frame or top fix into the recess, take your chain side bracket and offer it up to the window frame/ ceiling of the recess. You will notice the screw holes in the brackets are elongated, so you will have some small degree of adjustment left to right once your blind is fitted.

Offer the chain end bracket up to the place you have chosen and mark the centre of the screw hole in the bracket with your bradawl or pencil. Using the mark you have made you can now screw the bracket into place. Hook the blind into the bracket and hold it in place against the window. Place the remaining bracket onto the end of the blind and hold it to the frame/ ceiling. Mark your screw centres in the bracket with your bradawl/  pencil as you did with the first bracket. Carefully place your blind to one side and screw the remaining bracket in to place. Now take your blind and insert chain side first then place the blind into the opposite end to the chain and take the L shaped plastic Locking Pin (see pic) that came with the brackets and insert it into the opening between the blind and the bracket. You will hear it click into place,

It is important that you place your blind into the brackets when fully rolled up otherwise the safety chain connector will be out of place and you will not be able to manoeuvre your blind fully.

Fitting Made to Measure Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds come with top fixing brackets or face fixing brackets.

To start, you will need to evenly space your brackets with the first and last brackets approximately 2" in from each end of the rail, so measure two inches in from each side of the window and offer the brackets up, mark the holes in the brackets with the bradawl and screw them into place. Then add any middle brackets evenly within the two outer brackets. (You will only have received more than two brackets if you needed them).

Offer the back of rail (closest side to the window) into the brackets first and lift the front of the rail into the bracket and secure tight with the grub screw (supplied in fitting). This will hold the rail in place.

Once the rail is in place, pull the silver operating chain at the side and you will notice this opens and closes the slat trucks (hooks) within the rail. Make sure they are  in the opening position so that you can see through the slats before attempting to hang the slats..

Now carefully open your rolled vertical blind slats. They are already weighted and chained for your convenience. Unroll them and take the first slat and with the hanger clip at the top of the slat hang it on the first truck and repeat this until all slats are hung.

If you ordered a spit draw vertical blind, you will need to cut the bottom chain to split the slats. Count them so the number of slats is even each side of where you cut.

That's it! Easy! Beautiful, fully functioning vertical blinds!
